Sophie Kwasny receives the 1st ‘Michał Serzycki’ Data Protection Award

This prize acknowledges her “special achievements in this field, as Head of the Data Protection Unit in the Council of Europe, for the educational activities in the field of personal data protection undertaken by the Council of Europe. The Award entails the recognition of the Council of Europe’s activities for the benefit of promoting data protection values and the right to privacy, as well of [her] special awareness, efforts and involvement in this area.”

This award is an important tribute to the Organisation’s long lasting efforts of promotion of the right to Data Protection and acknowledges its current role. The Council of Europe is furthermore proud to see the work and achievement of its dedicated staff members recognised at international level. During the past years, Sophie has tirelessly defended privacy and data protection and this award is the result of her work.

The ‘Michał Serzycki’ Data Protection Award was awarded for the 1st time also to Professor Sewerynski, the Gliwice Education Centre, which started together with GIODO (Polish DPA) the Poland wide programme “Your data – your concern. Effective protection of personal data. Educational activity addressed to students and teachers”, as well as to Mrs Anna Janik, teacher in a Polish middle school, who has been actively involved in the same programme. The ceremony took place on the occasion of the Data Protection Day Conference organised by the Polish DPA on 29 January 2018 in Warsaw.
