Data Protection – a topic at the 11th UNI DEM Med Regional Seminar

The Council of Europe Data protection Commissioner, Jean-Philippe Walter, and the President of the Commission nationale de contrôle et de protection de données personnelles of Morocco (CNDP), Omar Seghrouchni, were among the speakers of the session Towards a public service that protects the rights of citizens: Right of access to information and protection of personal data of the Regional seminar for senior public officials UniDem Med, held on line, from 13 to 15 October 2020.

This first session examined the issues of personal data protection in the management of public affairs. National and international standards were also discussed, such as the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (Convention 108+).

What are the best examples of administrative practices and how do these practices improve the credibility and integrity of the public service? were the main issues addressed.

Organised by the Venice Commission in co-operation with the Ministry of the Economy, Finances and Public Administration Reform of the Kingdom of Morocco, this seminar is one activity of the UniDem Med Campus (University for Democracy), which contributes through peer-to-peer exchanges to the modernisation of the administration in the southern Mediterranean by enforcing law and consolidating institutions, in the framework of the joint Council of Europe-European Union Programme "Regional Support to Reinforce Human rights, Rule of Law and Democracy in the Southern Mediterranean" (South Programme IV).
