Very busy week for privacy and data protection in Washington D.C., with many events, conferences, discussions happening.

And out of this myriad of events, one stands to be noticed : the one on Convention 108 +.

Data protection Unit was co-organising with the Future of Privacy Forum and the German Marshall Fund of the US a discussion on “ Convention 108+ : the global data protection Convention - what’s in it for the US ?”. event provided an introduction to Convention 108+, presented its content and whether there is anything the Convention could offer to the United States. Speakers included Marie-Laure Denis (President of the CNIL), Lara Ballard (Former Special Advisor for Privacy and Technology, US Department of State), Simon Hania (Data Protection Officer of Uber), Eleni Kyriakides (EPIC International Counsel) and Jules Polonetsky (CEO, Future of Privacy Forum), Karen Kornbluh (Director of Technology Programming, German Marshall Fund of the US) and Sophie Kwasny, Head of Data Protection Unit of the Council of Europe.

Sophie Kwasny also spoke about Convention 108+ on a panel organised at the IAPP Global Privacy Summit (GPS19) on “A Convention 108-CBPR Guide to transborder data flows”.
