CyberEast: Series of Online Introductory Training Courses on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence with Judges and Prosecutors from the Eastern Partnership Region finalized

With the training course delivered for Georgian prosecutors during 27 – 30 September 2021, the CyberEast project, a joint action of the European Union and the Council of Europe, has finalised the series of online introductory courses on cybercrime and e-evidence for magistrates in the Eastern Partnership Region.

The growth in the use and development of information and communications technologies (ICTs) go hand in hand with the rise of crimes committed against or through the use of computer systems. The Council of Europe approach to protect societies worldwide in the cyberspace is based on the development and implementation of the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime, through a suitable programme of capacity building for criminal justice authorities.

The Judicial Training approach of the Council of Europe is to empower countries to develop their own programme by providing the first levels of training and then supporting countries as they integrate the available training into their training curricula. During the sessions delivered, it gave participants a good grasp on the basic concepts on cybercrime and other related topics. This course, more than anything, provided a solid base for future courses such as the Advanced Course on cybercrime and other specialized courses.
