The European Union and Council of Europe’s Horizontal Facility Action against Economic Crime in Albania held its 1st Steering Committee meeting on 20 September 2019 in Tirana. The meeting served as a platform to discuss and adopt the Action’s workplan and the scheduling of activities. Over 15 beneficiary institutions representing the National Coordinator on Anti-Corruption/Ministry of Justice, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Parliament, Ministry of Interior, High Inspectorate for the Declaration Audit  of  Assets and Conflict of Interest, General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering, General Prosecutor’s Office, General Directorate of State Police, General Directorate of Taxation, General Directorate of Customs, Bank of Albania, Financial Supervisory Authority, Administration of the Management of Seized and Confiscated Assets the School of Magistrates, the Academy of Security, the European Union Delegation to Albania and the Council of Europe confirmed their commitment and cooperation in advancing the implementation of European and International standards in the fight against corruption and economic crime.

The Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tirana  emphasized that the flexibility approach that the Facility offers and Actions' strong alignment with beneficiary national priorities, Council of Europe standards and good practices in the area of fight against corruption and money-laundering/terrorist financing and EU accession obligations will result in strong ownership among beneficiary institutions and contribute to the smooth implementation of the Action.

The second phase of the Horizontal Facility started in May 2019 and has an implementation period of 36 months.
