Coordinated strategies to protect children from sexual abuse at the heart of our territories

"To combat sexual violence against children, we must develop coordinated strategies at the heart of our territories that take them into account throughout the whole process," stressed Harald Bergmann (Netherlands, SOC/G/PD), on 18 November 2019, on the occasion of the European Day for the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.

"Cities and regions are at the forefront in the fight against this scourge that transcends borders and concerns the whole of Europe," explained the Congress spokesperson. "That is why it is essential to share the good practices that have proved their worth and to promote a truly transversal approach between all actors," he added.

This is the objective of the "Pact of Cities and Regions to stop Sexual Violence against Children", launched by the Congress and which brings together nearly 80 cities, regions and associations of municipalities and regions from 24 European countries. The Pact proposes various measures to prevent abuse, protect victims, prosecute perpetrators and ensure the full participation of children in the process as a whole.
