ALDA’s General Assembly: “Local and regional actors have a key role to play : that of reconnecting public authorities and citizens”

Xavier Cadoret (France, SOC), Vice-President of the Congress, attended the meetings of the Governing Board and the General Assembly of the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) in Caen on 16 and 17 May 2019.

"At a time when Europe is in crisis, the local and regional level of governance is the one where trust in institutions remains strongest. Local and regional governance has a strategic role to play: that of reconnecting public authorities and citizens. This is a conviction that the Congress shares with ALDA," said Xavier Cadoret, at the opening of the General Assembly.

Welcoming ALDA's work, particularly in the southern Mediterranean region with the opening of the first Local Democracy Agency in Tétouan (Morocco) in April 2019, the Vice-President stressed: "ALDA and the Congress share the same priorities. I am convinced that we will continue to develop our synergies, in particular when it comes to promoting local democracy and the participation of citizens in decision-making at local level, especially women and young people”.
