The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe approved today the nomination of Witold Bańka, Minister for Sport and Tourism of Poland, as single European candidate to the post of President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

This decision follows the recommendation formulated by the Ad hoc European Committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency (CAHAMA) on its extraordinary meeting (30th January). The candidature will be submitted by the Council of Europe Secretary General on behalf of the European governments.

Public authorities’ representatives will hold a special meeting on 14th May in Montreal (Canada) to examine candidates’ nominations from the five regions (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania) and to decide on a single one. A new President will be elected at the WADA Foundation Board meeting on 7th November in Katowice (Poland). In accordance with the current rotation principle, the next WADA President should be proposed by the public authorities.

WADA current President, Sir Craig Reedie, will complete his term of office in November 2019.
