Back Meeting of the Ministers' Deputies on 24 April 2019

At their 1344th meeting, on 24 April, the Ministers’ Deputies adopted a recommendation to member States on supporting young refugees in transition to adulthood, aimed notably at ensuring that young refugees receive additional temporary support after the age of 18 to enable them to access their rights (more information …..).

The Deputies continued their six-monthly review on the situation with regard to the abolition of the death penalty and adopted a series of decisions on this matter.

The Secretary General presented his consolidated report on the conflict in Georgia, covering the period from October 2018 to March 2019. The Deputies then held a debate on this topic, with the participation of Mr Lasha Darsalia, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

Ambassador Tomáš Boček, Special Representative of the Secretary General on migration and refugees, presented the report on his fact-finding mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia (24-27 July and 26-30 November 2018).

Finally, the Deputies held exchanges of views with:

  • the Rt Hon Geoffrey Cox, QC MP, Attorney General of the United Kingdom, following his presentation on the importance of Council of Europe mechanisms for securing human rights and the rule of law;
  • Ms Liliane Maury Pasquier, President of the Parliamentary Assembly, on the 2nd part of the Assembly’s 2019 Session, which took place in Strasbourg on 8-12 April 2019.
