A workshop “Towards effective implementation of the Barnahus model in Slovenia: The role of legal professionals” is taking place in Ljubljana today.
At the workshop, Slovenian professionals and Council of Europe experts will discuss how the Barnahus model can be adapted in the Slovenian justice system, and in particular the role of the judges and prosecutors in ensuring the rights of the child throughout the forensic interviewing and the trial processes. The aim of the Barnahus model is to avoid re-traumatisation of the child by limiting the number of interviews of suspected child victims of sexual abuse to the minimum, whilst ensuring due process for the defendant(s).
At a press conference in Ljubljana on 7 June 2018, the Minister of Justice, Mag. Goran Klemenčič, together with the Human Rights Ombudsman, Vlasta Nussdorfer, endorsed the Barnahus model and underlined the strong support it has received across political parties, different ministries and agencies involved. Presenting the project 3Barnahus/Children’s House”, the high level officials stressed that having such a House for Children would significantly facilitate the position of child victims while speeding up the court proceedings.
This workshop is organised within the framework of the joint Structural Reform Support Service of the European Commission and Council of Europe project “Barnahus/Children’s House”. It is and hosted by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia.Agenda of the workshop
