High Level Global Conference on the Universal Prohibition of Corporal Punishment

A High level Global Conference on the Universal Prohibition of Corporal Punishment, under the patronage of Her Excellency the President of Malta and organised by the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society, will take place in Malta this week.

The conference, to be opened by Marta Santos Pais, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Violence against Children, will be attended by more than 100 delegates from various organisations and countries worldwide.

This conference is the third of its series, with the first edition held in Sweden in 2014 and the second held in Austria in 2016. The conference will include keynote addresses, panel and roundtable discussions with the participation of leading experts in the field. Participants will have the opportunity to share their insights and meet other stakeholders committed to ending corporal punishment globally.

Ms Regina Jensdottir, Children’s Rights Coordinator and Head of the Children’s Rights Division of the Council of Europe, will provide insightful updates on the challenges the 47 Council of Europe member states face in responding to the effective prohibition of corporal punishment.
