Freedom of expression in Ukraine – Seminars for Judges and Journalists

On 28 April, a seminar for judges and journalists was organised by the Execution Department, in cooperation with the National School of Judges of Ukraine in the context of the project “Legal Education in the field of freedom of expression in Ukraine”. Representatives of the judiciary and media professionals discussed steps to ensure ethical and fact-based media coverage of judicial proceedings and the functioning of the judiciary. An expert group will develop a set of recommendations, based on this discussion, planned to be finalised during the next seminar in May 2021.

These seminars are part of the general measures for the execution of the European Court’s judgments related to defamation (Myrskyy group, notably Editorial Board of Grivna Newspaper), access to information (Leshchenko), presumption of innocence (Panteleyenko), as well as judicial independence (Oleksandr Volkov group).
