Presentation of the HELP course on CPT Standards to the experts involved in prison monitoring in Turkey

Academics from eight universities throughout Turkey, lawyers, and representatives of Directorate General for Prison and Detention Houses participated in the on-line Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) methodology to be applied for the course on the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment and Punishment (CPT) Standards.

The participants received insight into the HELP Programme and its methodology along with the wide spectrum of the e-learning tools and technical abilities it offers. On the practical side, they learned from the experience of the HELP Turkey National Coordinator, how to motivate trainees to make the most of the HELP e-learning platform as an interactive knowledge resource.

The ToT was the initial preparation of the future trainers for their role as HELP trainers for the civil monitoring board members in Turkey. The course on CPT Standards will be launched in Turkey in the beginning of 2021.

The activity was implemented on 30 November to 1 December 2020, within the scope of the Project entitled “Enhancing the Effectiveness of the Civil Monitoring Boards in Turkey in line with the European Standards” funded by Sweden, Switzerland, the Republic of Turkey, the Human Rights Trust Fund and Canada.
