In-Service Training on Reasoning of Judgments and Right to Liberty and Security for Turkish Judges and Prosecutors

Cascade training using in-service training modules on reasoned judgements in criminal law and right to liberty and security (Article 5 of European Convention on Human Rights) were conducted on 21 - 22 October 2022 in Antalya. This training was attended by 112 judges and prosecutors.

The training, which was conducted by experienced trainers of the Justice Academy of Türkiye, were successful in increasing the participants’ understanding in matters related to the lawfulness of detention, alternatives to detention, and the right to receive reasoned judgments.

Participants’ feedback indicated that the trainings provided a platform for lively professional discussions. Furthermore, it will contribute to the enhanced awareness on the different procedures to be followed in relation to deprivation of liberty, which is highly relevant in the daily work of judges and prosecutors.

 

This activity was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations”.
