National Focal Points (NFPs)
The national focal points will provide the link between the Council of Europe Transversal Programme and the actors and mechanisms that are responsible for gender equality at national level : that is from government, parliament, local and regional authorities, civil society and the private sector. Their role will be to promote international standards at national level with a view to bridging the gap between legal and real equality in our member states. Supported by the Gender Equality Commission in their work at national level, the focal points will also be a source of information and expertise for the co-operation programmes of the Council of Europe on gender equality. In accordance with its terms of reference, the Gender Equality Commission should also support a network of these national focal points by, in particular, organising annually a thematic conference which would allow for an exchange of experiences and good practices and promote progress in this field.
