Introduction

The objective of this activity is to provide policy-makers in member states with advice on measures to promote the welfare of migrant women and protect them from abuse including abuse at home and at work.

The activity implements the Plan of Action of the 8th Council of Europe Conference of European Ministers responsible for Migration (Kiev, September 2008) which called on the Committee of Ministers to develop preventative measures and support services for isolated migrant women to avoid, in particular, situations of vulnerability and abuse.

The first stage of the activity (2009-2010) will involve a series of national seminars to assess needs and identify good practice. The second stage (2011-2012) will be devoted to the preparation of a draft recommendation for adoption by the Committee of Ministers.

The activity is undertaken in co-operation with the Steering Committee on Equality between Women and Men (CDEG).
