Interview with Mrs Maud de Boer Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe
24.01.12 Mrs de Boer-Buquicchio shares the achievements and successes of the ONE in FIVE Campaign, explaining what are the next plans for the campaign. Talking about sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children, she points out that: “There is still a denial of the problem. People just do not want to admit that this phenomenon exists and that it often occurs in the family environment. (…) There cannot be excuses; the facts are there; it is a real phenomenon”. She also explores the main difficulties faced by Parliamentarians in convincing their governments to sign and ratify the Lanzarote Convention, and why the help of contact parliamentarians is crucial in stepping up the pace to mobilise actions against sexual violence.
