Serbian Parliament

On 8 April 2013, the Serbian parliament adopted an initiative originally proposed by the NGO Incest Trauma Centre, rescinding the statute of limitations as regards sex offences against children included in the criminal code.

The adoption of this legislation means that the convictions of those found guilty of rape or paedophilia will no longer expire. Moreover, a long-term system for the monitoring of sex offenders has been established as well as a DNA database.

The new law will apply to those convicted of the rape of a child or vulnerable person, those who abuse their authority for sexual purposes, those who procure or facilitate sexual relations or prostitution as well as anyone convicted of acquiring, possessing or displaying pornographic material or the use of minors for pornography.
