14th May 2005 - Information Office of the Council of Europe

The Political Architecture of Europe and Citizens’ Influence on its Shape”, co-organized with the Representation of the H.Böll Foundation in Poland, under the auspices of the President of Poland, Mr. Aleksander Kwaśniewski, and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Terry Davis.

The conference is topically linked with the Summit, at which heads of state and government will be discussing the future role of the Organization, its new goals and tasks, and new principles of European co-operation.

The conference agenda includes a discussion on the future political architecture of Europe - and the role and influence of Europe’s citizens in determining its democratic shape and development.

The debate will take into account the perspective of both the “new” and “old” countries of the European Union, as well as Council members that are outside the Union’s new borders.

Those invited include the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Foreign Ministers of Poland, Ukraine and Germany, as well as representatives of non-governmental and academic organizations from various European countries. It will be held at the Belweder Palace in Warsaw, on 14th May 2005, with representatives of the scientific, legal and political communities of Poland and neighbouring states among the invited participants.

The promotion of a book titled “Poland and the Council of Europe, 1990- 2005” will take place during the conference.
