Gilbert Saboya Sunyé: “It is the responsibility of all the 800 million inhabitants of the European states to promote human rights”  [22/03/2013]

During the 24th session, Gilbert Saboya Sunyé, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra, presented, on 21 March 2013, the themes of the Andorran Chairmanship, as the main topic concerned the stimulation and safeguarding of local democracy in Andorra and the other member states. ‘’Particular attention must be given to the protection of democratic processes and social cohesion, in the knowledge that these both can be victims of the negative consequences of the economic climate. As part of the action to further democratic life, the top priority for the Andorran Chairmanship has been to promote education in democratic citizenship,’’ he explained. “We believe that responsibility for “nurturing human rights” is shared by all of us, each and every one of the 800 million people in the Europe-wide area of the Council of Europe. I invite you to become active, to participate by joining in with this campaign as of today. If these efforts are to show progress, commitment and engagement from all levels of government are required, not least at the local and regional level.” he underlined.

Gilbert Saboya Sunyé : « La promotion des droits de l'homme incombe à l’ensemble des 800 millions d’habitants que comptent les Etats européens »  [22/03/2013]

Au cours de la 24e session du Congrès, Gilbert Saboya Sunyé, ministre des Affaires étrangères de l’Andorre, a présenté, le 21 mars 2013, les thèmes de la présidence andorrane du Comité des Ministres; le principal d’entre eux concerne la promotion et la sauvegarde de la démocratie locale dans la Principauté d’Andorre comme dans les autres Etats membres. ‘’Il nous incombe tout particulièrement de veiller à préserver la vie démocratique et la cohésion sociale, sachant que l’une et l’autre peuvent être victimes des conséquences négatives du climat économique actuel. Dans le cadre de l’action visant à faire progresser la vie démocratique, la présidence andorrane s’est fixée comme première priorité de promouvoir l’éducation à la citoyenneté démocratique’’, a-t-il expliqué. ''Nous pensons que la responsabilité de faire « grandir les Droits de l’Homme» incombe à chacun d'entre nous, à chacun des 800 millions d'individus de l'espace paneuropéen du Conseil de l'Europe. Pour que ces initiatives aient des chances de succès, l’engagement et la participation de tous est indispensable, mais aussi à tous les niveaux, gouvernement, élus locaux et régionaux,'' a-t-il souligné.
