Alphonse Goueth: ''The challenge facing French society today is that of integration''

“The responsibility and difficulties of the task to be performed should persuade local elected representatives to take up clear political positions”, declared Alphonse Goueth, deputy President of the French Council for Citizenship through Residence (CoFraCiR) and a member of the Council for Foreign Residents of Strasbourg. He described the leading role of Strasbourg, the city which now holds the Presidency of the CoFraCiR and which has amongst its tasks that of “starting a national campaign for foreign residents’ right to vote and to stand as candidates in local elections”. “I remain convinced that the granting of political rights to foreign residents at local level is now a matter for local elected representatives”, he concluded.

'La responsabilité et les difficultés de la tâche à accomplir doivent engager les élus locaux à prendre des positions politiques claires', a déclaré Alphonse Goueth, Président délégué du Conseil Français de la Citoyenneté de résidence (CoFraCiR) et membre du Conseil des Résidents Etrangers de Strasbourg. Il a présenté le rôle d’avant-garde de Strasbourg - portée à la présidence du CoFraCiR – qui a entre autres missions celle 'd’engager une campagne nationale pour le droit de vote et d’éligibilité des résidents étrangers aux élections locales'. 'Je reste convaincu qu’accorder le droit politique aux résidents étrangers, au niveau local, est désormais une question des élus locaux', a-t-il conclu.
