Photo exhibition"Break the silence on domestic violence"
Halvdan Skard, Congress President, launched, on Tuesday 27 March, a photo exhibition organised jointly by the Council of Europe Congress and Parliamentary Assembly in the framework of the Campaign "Stop domestic violence against women". This exhibition sheds light on the different faces: the parliamentarians, the local and regional deputies, representatives of non-governmental organisations, those active in the field, and above all the victims themselves, who are the heart of this citizens' initiative. The launching took place, in the presence of Terry Davis, Council of Europe Secretary General, and Fabienne Keller, Mayor of Strasbourg.

Statements on the fight against domestic violence
Halvdan Skard: ''Domestic violence is killing by another name'' (more...)
Fabienne Keller says City of Strasbourg determined to break silence surrounding domestic violence (more...)
Terry Davis: ''Communities have a key role to play in preventing domestic violence'' (more...)

Campaign

The Council of Europe has decided to conduct, in 2006-2008, a pan-European campaign to combat violence against women, including domestic violence. The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is organising the local and regional aspects of this campaign. The main aim is to actively involve local and regional authorities in this fight. Dealing with the direct effects of this violence on an everyday basis, they are key players in the combating it.
