Publications: Special edition on the 20th Anniversary of the Congress and “The State of the Congress 2013” magazine

The 2013 edition of the annual magazine “The State of the Congress” has just been published. It presents the core activities carried out by the Congress in 2013, notably the monitoring of the implementation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and the observation of local and regional elections, as well as targeted assistance programmes. Topical issues are analysed in detail, in particular the impact of the current economic crisis on cities and regions and Roma inclusion at local level. In addition, a special edition dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Congress is also available. It includes a “posthumous” interview with Jacques Chaban-Delmas, the first president of the Conference of Local Authorities of Europe, the predecessor of the Congress, and the speech he gave on 12 January 1957 at the opening of its first session. Former Presidents of the Congress have also contributed to this magazine by sharing their experience and thoughts on the Congress’s main achievements during their tenure.

Le magazine annuel « l’Etat du Congrès 2013 » vient de paraitre. Il présente les activités clés du Congrès menées en 2013, notamment le suivi de la mise en œuvre de la Charte européenne de l’autonomie locale, l’observation des élections locales et régionales mais aussi les programmes d’assistance ciblés pour les collectivités européennes. Des questions d’actualité y sont détaillées, en particulier l’incidence de la crise économique actuelle sur les villes et les régions ou l’intégration des Roms au niveau local. En outre, une édition spéciale consacrée au 20e anniversaire du Congrès est aussi disponible, elle comprend notamment un entretien « posthume » avec Jacques Chaban-Delmas, premier président de la Conférence européenne des pouvoirs locaux, ancêtre du Congrès et le discours qu’il a prononcé le 12 janvier 1957 à l’ouverture de sa première session. D’anciens présidents du Congrès ont également contribué à ce numéro en nous faisant part de leur expérience et des principales réalisations du Congrès sous leur présidence.
