ONE in FIVE Campaign
presented to Swedish Parliament

17.05.2011 - The Council of Europe ONE in FIVE Campaign to stop sexual violence against children was officially presented to Swedish Parliament last week with the immediate effect of drawing national media attention to the issue of child sexual abuse.

Patrik Sjöberg, former Swedish high jump world champion and Olympic medal winner took part in discussions together with Fredrik Malmberg, Ombudsman for Children in Sweden, and Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin and Carina Ohlsson, both PACE Parliamentarians. This event has received a wide media coverage, the ONE in FIVE Campaign has been presented to people in the national prime time news and many newspapers such as Dagens Nyheter and Göteborgs-Posten covered the next day the ONE in FIVE campaign launch event.

Patrik Sjöberg recently revealed during a TV interview that he had suffered sexual abuse in his early teens by his trainer and stepfather, Viljo Nousiainen. His autobiographical book “Det du inte sag” (What you didn’t see) recounts this episode of his life; his revelations have created a media storm in Sweden. On account of his great courage in speaking openly about his personal experience as a victim of child sexual abuse and his wish to raise awareness, Carina Ohlsson invited Patrik Sjöberg to join the official presentation of the ONE in FIVE campaign at the Swedish Parliament.
