Het Europees volkslied bestaat sinds 1972 uit een deel van de prelude tot de "Ode aan de Vreugde" uit de negende symfonie van Beethoven.

De Raad van Europa stelt burgers en professionals opnames van verschillende interpretaties van het Europees volkslied ter beschikking. Deze opnames zijn fragmenten uit "Rhapsodie sur l'Hymne Européen" van de Franse componist Christophe Guyard. Die opnames zijn speciaal voor de Raad van Europa gemaakt voor gebruik in documentaires, nieuwsberichten en andere programma's over de Raad van Europa.

De "Rhapsodie sur l'Hymne Européen" is een auteursrechtelijk beschermd werk en is geregistreerd bij Sacem (Frankrijk). De componist is Christopher Guyard.
