CULTUREMAKERS is a short film, shot and produced by refugee and local youth (14-17 years of age) residing in the island of Lesvos-Greece. During a 3-month educational program funded by the European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC)-Athens Cluster, and implemented by local NGO LATRA INNOVATION LAB, 70 multilingual and multi-ethnic youth from diverse socio-economic backgrounds had the opportunity to leave their adverse and remote living conditions such as refugee camps, and explored the rich cultural heritage of the island through a number of organized tours. The youth documented their experiences by developing their skills in film media including cameras, drones and film-editing software. The tours were selected by the youth, and included visits in Heritage sites, participation in local customs, and engaging with local traditions. During the project, the youth become engaged in intercultural dialogue and become ambassadors of our shared European Heritage and Values, which helped in steering them away from radicalization and fostering a shared peacebuilding Culture. CULTUREMAKERS presents their Cultural Heritage experiences which they connected to our shared European Values.
