Ankara consultations on the execution of the European Court’s judgments

On 2 and 3 May, a delegation of the Department for Execution of the European Court’s judgments was in Ankara to discuss issues concerning cases against Turkey under the Committee of Ministers’ supervision, including freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and effective investigations into unlawful killings and injuries.

Bilateral talks were held with the Constitutional Court of Turkey, the Court of Cassation, the Council of State, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ombudsman, and the Turkish Human Rights Institute.

The delegation also took part in the closing events for the Council of Europe Project on “Improving the Effectiveness of Investigation of Allegations of Ill-treatment and Combating Impunity” by making an intervention on the need to carry out effective investigations into allegations of domestic violence, with reference to the European Court’s judgments, the Istanbul Convention, and GREVIO’s (“Group of Experts on Action Against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence”) findings in its evaluation report on Turkey.
