Congress President met the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Roma Issues
The President of the Congress Gudrun Mosler-Törnström met with the new Special Representative of the Secretary General for Roma Issues, Mr. Valeriu Nicolae - who took office in September 2016 - to discuss working priorities and identify activities for mutual cooperation, on 22 November in Strasbourg. Building stable democratic institutions at local and regional level, their involvement in the fight against anti-Gypsyism and the violence against women were the topics of potential mutual cooperation. With the adoption, during its 31st Session (19-21 October 2016), of Resolution 403 on the situation of Roma and Travellers in the context of rising extremism, xenophobia and the refugee crisis in Europe, the Congress strengthened its commitment to the fight against anti-Gypsyism. This is in line with the Council of Europe’s Thematic Action Plan for the Inclusion of Roma and Travellers (2016-2019).
