Central Electoral Commission’s staff are improving their knowledge and capacities in political finances oversight

Council of Europe experts developed a tailor-made two-day training on how to implement methodologies on political finances oversight which they delivered to the staff from the new Division on Control and Oversight of Financing of Political Parties and Electoral Campaigns of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova (CEC).

Members of the Centre for Continuous Electoral Training of the Republic of Moldova and of the CEC of Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauzia took also part in the training. The participants learnt about the relevant international and national instruments and practices pertaining to political parties financing and electoral campaign funding. They enhanced their knowledge on a number of topics focusing on procedures of control and oversight, investigations into violations, mandatory and optional evidence when proving the financial violations, etc.

In their evaluation, the participants were confident that following that training the CEC will be able to address and tackle more efficiently the phenomena of fraudulent use of financial resources by some electoral stakeholders. Thereby, sending a clear message to all electoral stakeholders that it is time to set the record straight and abide by the rule of law not only during the electoral periods.

This activity was organised by the Council of Europe Project Improving Electoral Practice in the Republic of Moldova, Phase II, in co-operation with the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova.
