To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Convention for the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse (“Lanzarote Convention”), a conference on “Ending sexual exploitation and abuse of children: Towards a world of trust” will gather representatives from all the States Parties to the Convention, relevant NGOs and other key players. The Lanzarote Convention, opened for signature on 25 October 2007 has now been ratified by 42 of the Council of Europe member States. It aims to protect children from sexual violence, as well as to support victims and their families. Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni will speak at the opening of the event.
A media briefing by Claude Janizzi, Chairperson of the Lanzarote Committee, on the achievements of the Lanzarote Convention over the ten years, and on the challenges in its implementation will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday 24 October, in room B5.06.C at the AGORA building.
