Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland is making an official visit to Finland on 8 November 2018. The Secretary General is going to hold meetings in Helsinki with President Sauli Niinistö, Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini and Speaker of the Parliament Paula Risikko.
The visit takes place ahead the upcoming Finnish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from 21 November for the next six months. During the visit, the Finnish Presidency’s priorities and the programme will be published. Other topics of discussion include protection of journalists and the current challenges facing the Council of Europe.
A meeting with the press is scheduled at 11.30 a.m. in the Government Banquet Hall “Smolna” with Foreign Minister Timo Soini.
