The Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) publishes today the report on its most recent visit to Slovenia from 28 March to 4 April 2017, together with the response of the Slovenian authorities.

During the visit, the CPT’s delegation assessed progress made since previous visits and the extent to which the Committee’s recommendations had been implemented. Particular attention was paid to the treatment of and safeguards offered to persons deprived of their liberty by the police and the situation of persons held in prisons. The delegation also examined the situation of foreign nationals deprived of their liberty under aliens legislation and of forensic psychiatric patients.

The main conclusions of the CPT are set out in the executive summary of the report.

In their response, the Slovenian authorities provide information on the measures taken to implement the recommendations made in the CPT’s report.

The CPT report and the response of the Slovenian authorities have been made public at the request of the Slovenian Government.
