Effective enrolment and attendance of Roma children throughout compulsory school education and the added value of vocational education for Roma youth

The Ad Hoc Committee of Experts on Roma and Traveller Issues (CAHROM) has made public its thematic report on the effective enrolment and attendance of Roma children throughout compulsory school education and the added value of vocational education for Roma youth following a thematic visit of a CAHROM group of experts to Chişinău and Vulcăneşti, Republic of Moldova, on 24-26 April 2018.

The report provides an analysis of educational policies from the Republic of Moldova (requesting country), as well as from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland and Ukraine (partner countries). It also includes examples of good practices, such as the establishment of resource centres for inclusive education in 31 educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova; the role of school attendance officers applying a multidisciplinary approach in the Netherlands; financial motivation for teachers to train on and apply inclusive teaching methods in Hungary; “second chance” schools offered to Roma children in Greece; Roma educational assistants and integration dayrooms run both by schools and Roma NGOs in Poland.

This and other thematic reports endorsed by the CAHROM are available at the CAHROM website.
