Barcelos joins the Portuguese Network of Intercultural Cities

On 7 November 2022 the city of Barcelos (Portugal) has joined the Portuguese Network of Intercultural Cities (RPCI), becoming the 157th member of the ICC programme.

Barcelos City Council has developed a set of intercultural strategies based on the principles of partnership, equal opportunities and non-discrimination as well as on valuing diversity. The city has several ongoing projects and practices aimed at promoting active citizenship and developing a more inclusive and accessible city which fosters relationships of respect and proximity among all its inhabitants. A recent example includes the monitoring, welcoming and integration of refugees from Ukraine in areas such as housing, healthcare, education and employment, a work which has been carried out in solidarity with the local community. Another relevant project is the municipal mediators programme, led together with the Roma community and aimed at facilitating their full inclusion.

By joining the RPCI, Barcelos is included in a growing network of Portuguese cities working to further the intercultural principles. We invite you to follow the page for updated information about the network and upcoming activities.

Welcome to the ICC network!
