Why the "Dialogues"

Launched jointly by the City of Strasbourg and the Council of Europe in 2009, the "Strasbourg dialogues" aim at involving Strasbourg citizens in discussions on matters of critical importance to our future as Europeans. Held on a regular basis, the "Dialogues" help both to strengthen the "citizens' Europe" and to develop further the Europe of Strasbourg.

"Children and violence: prevention, protection, participation"

The Council of Europe and the City of Strasbourg are to hold their third "Strasbourg dialogue", on the subject of "Childhood and violence: prevention, protection, participation". The event will benefit from the presence of Marta Santos Pais, United Nations Special Representative on Violence against Children, and Maud de Boer Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The discussion, chaired by local newspaper journalist Claude Keiflin, will cover the various aspects of the violence to which children are subjected on a daily basis, the factors underlying such violence and the international organisations' suggestions for combating this problem.
