The Intercultural Cities team celebrates the World Refugee Day

The Intercultural Cities team joins its members in celebrating 20th June as the World Refugee Day, to encourage governments and member states to work together for improving the protection of the rights of refugees and asylum seekers that reach Europe after feeling under threat in their own countries.

We stand with refugees because we believe that all human beings are born equal in rights and dignity, and that people fleeing for their lives should be shielded, welcomed and given  the possibility to live up to their talents and aspirations.

We stand with refugees because we believe in the diversity advantage as a tool to contribute to fairer and enriched societies.

We stand with refugees because the European Convention on Human Rights applies to all human beings on the territory of one of the 47 Member States, and because no human being is illegal.

We stand with refugees because we see every day the great potential of successful integration in the 120 cities that are part of the Intercultural Cities Programme and that powerfully demonstrate that diversity, if managed with competence and in the spirit of inclusion, can be a source of dynamism, social and economic development.
