Serbia: inter-institutional meeting on execution of ECHR judgments

On 9 July, the Execution Department participated in an inter-institutional meeting on the implementation of ECHR judgments concerning Serbia. Discussions focused on the enhancement of the national mechanism for the execution of ECHR judgments and on strengthening the role of the Government Agent in the execution process.

There was also a stocktaking of the progress achieved in the execution of ECHR judgments during the past few years (while in 2015, the number of pending cases reached almost 250, in July 2021 it dropped to 44), and to discuss outstanding measures in certain pending cases, notably those relating to non-enforcement of domestic decisions (Kačapor group), excessive length of domestic proceedings (Jevremović group) and “missing babies” (Zorica Jovanović).

The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Parliament, judiciary (including the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Cassation), Judicial Academy, State Attorney’s Office, State Prosecutorial Council and the Government Agent before the European Court.
