Retour Education and Training of Youth Workers in Europe Today

Education and Training of Youth Workers in Europe Today

The online Study Session on Education and Training of Youth Workers in Europe Today, organised in cooperation with ECYC - European Confederation of Youth Clubs, successfully took place last week. The activity explores the creation of frameworks for education and training for youth workers, based on the Council of Europe’s Recommendation on Youth Work and the European Youth Work Agenda.

The activity included 2 open panel discussions (available on the Youth Department’s facebook page) and an input from Antje Rothemund, head of the Youth Department. The possibility to exchange and get updates from the institutions, academia and organisations at the forefront of youth workers education was very inspiring and gave a lot of content to the study session, as well as expertise, visibility, discussion material, motivation and inspiration for participants.

The CM Recommendation on Youth Work and the European Youth Work Agenda gave a wider perspective to the participants, especially in their advocacy work in shaping policy and influencing practice and research on national, local and organisational level.

As a result of the online study session the participants have proposed follow-up actions such as the following:

  • 1. Development, recognition and advocacy tools which promote youth work based on the Council of Europe’s Youth Work Recommendation
  • 2. Development of a youth work manifesto aiming at improving education and training for youth workers
  • 3. Online campaign “Youth Work Works” to increase the visibility, importance and public recognition of youth work and its effects
  • 4. Online database with youth work resources on national level
  • 5. Promotion on national level youth work portfolios
  • 6. Encouraging and developing youth centres including youth information centres in rural areas
