On 8 October 2020, representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Council of Europe Secretariat officially launched the project “Youth for Democracy in Ukraine”. The unique nature of the project and its relevance to the youth policy field in Ukraine today, its three major components and the ways of working and possible co-operation, were presented by the invited speakers and the project team. The partners in this project, namely youth organisations, local authorities, associations of youth centres and of youth workers, underlined the importance of the themes addressed within the project. They shared their expectations and possible contribution for its successful implementation.

“Youth for Democracy” is implemented within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2021 and is built on the outcomes of the longstanding bilateral cooperation between the Council of Europe Youth Department and the Ministry in charge of youth policy in Ukraine.

The project contributes to strengthening youth participation and civic engagement of young people in both rural and urban settings, by developing the capacities of youth policy stakeholders and improving the quality of youth policy and youth work based on Council of Europe standards.

The first Steering Committee of the project was held on 1 October 2020, also in hybrid format with the participation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Council of Europe Youth Department and the Council of Europe office in Ukraine. The Steering Committee selected a list of 10 municipalities to be invited in partnership for the first component of the project “Young People, Full Citizens” and adopted the work plan of the project.
