The Council of Europe hosted a presentation and discussion on preliminary findings of Labour Inspection Office institutional assessment. Presented assessment aims to support the Labour Inspection Service in setting out the basis for effectively implementing its mandate within the newly embarked chapter. The document proposes key recommendations to rapidly, effectively, and continuously enhance the institutional capacity of the Labour Inspectorate vis-à-vis international standards and best practices.
The Meeting was opened by Stefan Sirbu, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Beka Peradze, Head of Labour Inspection Office and Irma Gelashvili, Chief Specialist of Labour and Employment policy and collective labour disputes Division from the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social affairs of Georgia.
Council of Europe international expert, Marius Bartninkas made a thorough presentation of the Labour Inspection Office Institutional Assessment, key conclusions and respective recommendations. The presentation was followed by discussion to examine the assessment and define actionable items in order to reinforce the effective functioning of the institution. Event was attended by trade unions, employers’ associations and other relevant governmental, national and international institutions.
Beka Peradze, Head of Labour Inspection Office reiterated the importance of Council of Europe Project Action in the direction of protection of Labour Rights. He mentioned that regardless the recent advancement in Labour Legislation, Labour Rights and Occupational Health and Safety, a lot remains to be done. He reassured the readiness of Labour Inspection Office to accept the recommendations proposed within presented assessment and jointly discuss implementation of the best practices that would support further enhancement of Labour rights protection in Georgia.
The event was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening Protection of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia.” The Project is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023.
