Series of trainings for the Legal Aid Service completed

The Council of Europe and the European Union completed a series of trainings for the lawyers of the Legal Aid Service. The activity chain is a follow up of the development of a guidebook focusing on practical skills and the protection of human rights standards in criminal proceedings.

As a result of trainings, up to 60 participants know more about the issues related to domestic violence, evidence gathering, the right to liberty, a key aspect of the provision of legal assistance, plea-bargaining and pre-trial measures, trial preparation, admissibility, credibility, and disclosure of evidence.

The guidebook serves as a comprehensive tool for lawyers to act in various situations in line with the European Convention of Human Rights standards while representing clients in criminal cases.

This training was organised in the framework of the project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia", funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance II.
