Hearing on climate-induced migration in the Assemblée nationale and Diaspora Network regional Conference in Kyiv

On 21 September 2018 in Paris, the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons will meet in the Assemblée nationale at the initiative of Marie-Christine Verdier-Jouclas (France, NR), rapporteur for a report on “A legal status for climate refugees?” A hearing on the challenges of displacement due to climate change will include speakers from IOM, UNHCR and the Migration and Climate Change Coalition. The Committee will also adopt reports on family reunification and on radicalisation of migrants and diaspora communities. As well as an exchange of views with the French authorities, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions, Agnes Callamard, will address the Committee.

On Monday 24 September 2018 in Kyiv, Ukraine, the Parliamentary Network on Diaspora Policies will hold a regional seminar, opened by the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy. Sessions will address legal bases for cooperation with diasporas and the promotion of diaspora policies at national, regional and local levels. Outgoing Coordinator of the Network, Andrea Rigoni, will hand over to a new Coordinator at the close of the seminar. Participants will include parliamentarians from Ukraine and member states in the region, as well as government representatives and mayors.
