Round table on effective protection of children in migration and publication

On 13-14 December 2018 in Strasbourg, Council of Europe Children´s Rights Division, in association with the Special Representative on migration and refugees, organised an international roundtable on “Delivering real change: effectively protecting refugee and migrant children’s rights”. The roundtable seeks to address common challenges, identify ways to make better use of existing tools and experiences, and to promote synergies between the member states and different relevant bodies that aim to provide them with active feedback and assistance based on their experience. This event will in particular draw on the recommendations made by the Special Representative on migration and refugees in the framework of the fact-finding missions he has carried out, as well as on the Lanzarote Committee’s Special Report on Protecting Children Affected by the Refugee Crisis from Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

On the same occasion, a Handbook on child-friendly information for children in migration was presented to the participants ahead of its launch, scheduled for the International Migrant´s Day on 18 December 2018. The handbook is based on the Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2016-2021) and the Council of Europe Action Plan on Protecting Refugee and Migrant Children in Europe (2017-2019) and destined for frontline professionals on how to convey child-friendly information to children in migration. The handbook will be available on the Council of Europe Children’s Rights Division website: https://www.coe.int/children.
