Council of Europe youth department launched a project on social inclusion of young refugees

From 25 November to 2 December 2018, the Youth Department of the Council of Europe launched a project on the social inclusion of young refugees. The aim of the project is to reduce the risks of social exclusion and violence that young refugees, especially minors in transition to adulthood, are exposed to. YOUTH.TOGETHER supports the social inclusion, access to education, self‐development and autonomy through youth work and non‐formal education activities. The centre‐piece of the project is a long‐term training course for youth workers and young refugees active in reception and hosting centres or other social and educational facilities for or involving, young refugees. An introduction to this course was held during a seminar at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg, through which a common learning platform will be built and initial training inputs, especially around how to develop a project with young people/refugees are given. The course will run through to December 2019.

Partners of the project include the UNHCR, the Erasmus+ project Becoming part of Europe, the Youth Council of Bavaria, Voices of Young Refugees in Europe, The Young Republic, and SALTO Inclusion & Diversity Resource Centre. The project is made possible thanks to a financial contribution of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Flanders.
