On 27-29 September 2022, the Council of Europe participated in the 14th European Forum on the Rights of the Child 2022, speaking about synergies between the Council of Europe and the EU in protecting children’s rights. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić, touched upon challenges children face, including Ukrainian children in migration which she called “one of the many appalling effects of Russia’s aggression”. Furthermore, the Council of Europe Coordinator for the Rights of the Child presented the Council of Europe’s work on children in migration as part of the workshop “Towards integrated child protection systems - protection and support to unaccompanied children: the role of guardians”. Her presentation was focused on the Committee of Ministers Recommendation on effective guardianship for unaccompanied and separated children in the context of migration.
