Ambassador Meuwly has taken his position as Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the Council of Europe in March 2019. In September 2020 he became Chair of the Rapporteur Group on Legal Cooperation (GR-J) of the Ministers’ Deputies.
His previous posting was in Brussels as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to NATO from September 2015 to February 2019. From October 2011 to August 2015 he had been Ambassador to South Africa, where he also represented Switzerland to Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius and Swaziland (Eswatini). From 2007 to 2011, Ambassador Meuwly was Head of Political Division I at the State Secretariat of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Berne. He covered relations with countries of Europe and central Asia, as well as Swiss policies within the OSCE and the Council of Europe.
