Two courses of the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) of the Council of Europe were launched in the Republic of Moldova within the framework of the project "Support to Criminal Justice Reforms" implemented by the Council of Europe.

The HELP course on Prohibition of Ill-treatment was launched in cooperation with the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) of the Republic of Moldova, for a group of 35 judges, prosecutors and staff of the office of the agent before the European Court of Human Rights (the Court). The course will be tutored by Ms Diana Scobioală, Director of the NIJ and HELP focal point and national tutor, and Ms Olga Dorul, HELP national tutor. It will be implemented until the end of January 2018.

Following the presentation on the HELP Programme, the participants could benefit from a presentation on the content and structure of the course, as well as its relevance for the Republic of Moldova, by Mr Eric Svanidze, author of the course. Ms Scobioală and Ms Dorul then introduced the participants to the national adaptation of the course for the Republic of Moldova and the practical aspects of its implementation.

This is the third HELP course launched with the NIJ, following the course on Introduction to the ECHR and the ECtHR and the course on Pre-trial Investigation and the ECHR, which have been since included in the training curriculum of the NIJ for initial and continuous training, respectively.

On the same day, the HELP course on Pre-trial Investigation and the ECHR was again launched, this time in cooperation with the Moldovan Union of Lawyers for a group of 25 lawyers and trainee-lawyers. The course will be tutored by Mr Vadim Vieru, lawyer and HELP national tutor, and will be implemented until 25 January 2018.

Mr Igor Moldovanu, Secretary General of the Union of Lawyers, addressed the participants of this event, which was co-moderated by Mr Vladimir Palamarciuc, HELP Info Point for the Republic of Moldova.

The event served also as an occasion to certify the successful participants of the second edition of the HELP course on Admissibility criteria in application submitted to the ECtHR for Moldovan lawyers, implemented between April and June 2017.
