As part of the Youth for Democracy programme, this year two interrelated National Training Courses in Human Rights Education took place in late November in Armenia- the main intention behind organising two activities was to reach out to as many young people from two regions of Armenia as possible within the capacity of the national partner organisations and have a wider impact. Both trainings were attended by youth workers, youth leaders, human rights activists and young people interested in developing their knowledge and competencies in human rights education on the national level.

The second national training course was organised by Armenian Progressive Youth (APY) between 27 November - 1 December in Yerevan and created a platform for 15 young people and young human rights activists-to-be from Yerevan, Kotayk, Ararat and Armavir regions of Armenia to build their capacity and develop their skills in the field of human rights education and active citizenship through non-formal educational tools, methods and techniques described in COMPASS.

With the support of two trainers from APY and a trainer from the Trainers Pool of the Council of Europe participants learnt about the historical evolution of human rights, their origin and historical development and discussed key human values and needs behind. They have received comprehensive information on the mechanisms of legal protection of human rights, learnt the key national and international instruments, the ways they function and support in enforcing human rights protection.

They have also learnt about the labour, education and health rights on the national level, how and to whom they can apply if their rights are violated, the system of judiciary on the national level, institute of the Ombudsman and ECHR, specific cases and how they were resolved.
