Second ELoGE Awards Ceremony in Greece

ELoGE - European Label of Governance Excellence - is awarded to the municipalities which have demonstrated compliance with the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance, measured against a Council of Europe benchmark. Currently, ELoGE is being implemented in about 20 of the Council of Europe member states.

The Centre of Expertise for Good Governance has been supporting the implementation of the second round of the European Label of Governance Excellence (ELoGE) in Greece, working in cooperation with the Institute of Local Government (the accredited entity) and the Central Union of Greek Municipalities.

The second Award Ceremony was held on 23 June: 15 municipalities were awarded the Label, symbolised by the crystal dodecahedron.

Claudia Luciani, Director of Human Dignity, Equality and Governance of the Council of Europe, congratulated the participants and encouraged them to continue promoting good governance in Greece.

The awarded mayors underlined the importance of participating in the benchmarking process, as it was an opportunity to evaluate their strengths, weaknesses and the areas for potential improvements, and engage citizens in this work.
