The presentation of the National Public Broadcasting Service was held on 7 April 2015 with support of the EU and CoE Joint Programme “Strengthening Information Society in Ukraine”.
President Petro Poroshenko has taken part in the presentation and signed the Law on Public television and radio broadcasting. The bill was adopted by Ukraine’s Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, on 19 March. It provided for the establishment of the National Public Broadcasting Company, independent from government and the president, on the basis of national and regional government TV and radio companies. The Council of Europe expert had analysed the Draft Law before its adoption (read more).
The event was also attended by Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ambassador, Head of the Council of Europe office in Ukraine Vladimir Ristovski, acting head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Thomas Frellesen, counselor and director of the Program for technical assistance of the Embassy of Canada, Stephen Potter.
The promotional video on public broadcasting (produced with support of the EU and CoE Joint Programme “Strengthening Information Society in Ukraine”) and a new web-site of the public broadcaster (produced with support from the CoE Canadian-funded project, “Integration of European Standards in the Ukrainian Media Environment”) were presented.
